Wrestling:  Is Anyone Watching Anymore?
Saturday, October 25th, 2008

It's been sometime since I wrote a column here on DanMirade.com, as we've all been extremely busy getting things ready for SOUL SURVIVOR V on November 15th (see above).  At the same time, I've never been less interested in professional wrestling after 22 plus years of enjoying it. . .maybe because it's not pro wrestling anymore, I don't know. . .

Every show looks the same, feels the same. . .nothing happens anymore that makes you say to yourself "I've gotta see this!"  It's the same guys doing the same thing week after week. . .month after month. .  .year after year now.  As I've stated before, the best wrestling product out there is WWE 24/7, which is a tremendous value for $7.99 per month.  If you haven't checked it out yet, it's well worth your time and money. . .

WWE had their draft. . .they changed things up. . .and it still looks and feels the same to me.   You rarely see angles, matches, stipulations, etc. sold as something important.  Nothing gets over other than the status quo.  Everyone looks the same, talks the same, wrestles the same.  I don't like sports entertainment as much as I wish I could enjoy it.  All three "brands" feel exactly the same. . .

Over at TNA, it's more of the same. . .with their roster, they really should "cross the line" by trying to do something new and different than what's going on with WWE.  The New vs Old has been done before. . .I don't see the Main Event Mafia as a faction we'll be talking about for years to come. I wasn't impressed with the Las Vegas live show at all.  Too much talk, too many vignettes, none of them especially awe inspiring.  Their TV shows and PPV's were awe inspiring a good percentage of the time until late 2006. I wish I could enjoy their show, but I don't, so I don't watch all that much of it.  Even the house show quality isn't what it was even a year ago.  It's disappointing, as the sport needs something new, something fresh. . .

I recently was emailed an article about how there are more wrestling fans with nothing to support anymore than there are actually watching. . .add me to the list. . .

So what do YOU think??
