RAW: Will Viewers Tune Out Without John Cena??
Monday, October 8th, 2007
Raw opens with Vince and Triple H rehashing what happened at No Mercy. . .I've read conflicting reports on that event. Triple H says he wants to take advantage of his championship rematch clause and face Randy Orton tonight, Vince says fine. . .only it will be a handicapped match with Orton teaming with Umaga. How many handicapped matches has Triple H been in since he came back??
We have new womens champion Beth Phoenix teaming with Melina and Jillian Hall against Candice Michelle, Maria and Mickie James. This again feels like the same divas match they have every week, whether it's a singles match, tag match, six woman, etc. I wish the guy wearing the Michael Myers mask in the crowd would come in and clean house. Candice had a tough time executing the victory roll for the win. Lawler says he wants six or eight divas matches tonight. He's the only one. I can only imagine what exciting stipulations they're going to have for Cyber Sunday for the women's title match. . .maybe a bra and panties match?? That would be a first. . .
Another add for my movie The Condemned. They said it was the hottest action movie of the summer. It came out in late April. Must have been global warming. . .
They teased heat between William Regal and Coachman. Vince shows up and tells Regal to look after Hornswoggle. After McMahon leaves, Regal says as his assistant, it's Coachman's job to watch Hornswoggle. Coachman goes to check on his nap, Regal throws a fit. Is Hornswoggle a midget or a baby?? Who takes a nap at 9:30PM??
Next up, it's Val Venis vs Santino Marella. I'm sure Leo is rooting on Val. Santino runs out to ringside with Lillian and announces he can't wrestle Val because of a prior engagement. He says Regal found a suitable replacement and Snitsky comes out. Ugh. Can you believe Snitsky has been in WWE for three years now?? Simple squash match. Where do you go with pushing Snitsky?? A run with Triple H for the belt??
Jim Ross interviews John Cena from his home in Tampa. He says he'll be out for seven months to a year, WOW. Watch those house show numbers drop. . .get well soon. . .
Triple H vs Orton and Umaga was a good match. . .liked the post match beat down and extended period of selling (even through a commercial break). Really good. Vince approached him in the hall while he was being carried to the back. . .that was overdone, no need for anything other than the angle they shot. . .
Lillian sang a song off of her new album. . .wasn't bad for what it was, something different. I'm sure the Jackal has already reserved a copy, as he loves Spanish music. You know they're building for Santino to get a stunner. . .
Jeff Hardy vs Mr. Kennedy. . .this was a really good, long IC Title Match. Crowd was split, Kennedy continues to get over. It's nice to see the IC Title in a strong position on the show. . .
More with Vince, Regal, Coachman and Hornswoggle, who was napping in a little crate. This is a segment to boost the 18-34 demo. . .after the room cleared, Horny hit Coachman with some weak looking cane shots. . .he needs to talk to our old friend Paul Bearer. . .
All of the superstars make their way to the stage to shake Orton's hands. . .it's a rather slim looking roster. . .that's the problem with the business all over right now. Orton came out and stood on a big podium in the middle of the ring making an inauguration speech. Vince was mad as Triple H was MIA after being told he would be the first to shake the new champions hand. Orton was ready to charge to the back and look for him, then Shawn Michaels music hit. Good stuff. This can play into their hands as Michaels injury angle was at the hands of Orton. Orton got the superkick, nice action packed angle to end the show. . .
Overall, this was a really strong Raw. . .get rid of the women and the midget and it gets even better. . .
I click over to TBS after Raw is over, Cleveland is up 6-3 on New York in the 8th. . .a good night of television. . .
