TNA: My Man Black Machismo! Oooooh Yeah!
Thursday, September 6th, 2007
The nameless, ineffective blonde that won't get any wrestler, angle, match or PPV over catches Ron Killings and Pacman Jones coming out of a hummer. . .Jones was in the backseat while Killings drove. . .what's his name, Virgil? Killings comes across as a serious threat and a top guy thanks to this angle. . .
Frankie Kazarian vs Tomko. . .it's nice to see TNA push Kazarian harder of late. . .and they've done a much more effective job at getting Tomko over than WWE did. According to my DV-R, we're at 3:50 into the show and Karen Angle hasn't been on yet. Wow. Well, we can't go without a woman for long, as Robert Roode and Miss Brooks make their way to ringside. Tomko goes over in the match but it was layed out where Kazarian still looked strong. Like the elevation of Kazarian (I will not call him Kaz), not a huge fan of having another angle with a "knockout" (isn't that what TNA's divas are called?) that no one will pay money to see.
A major announcement concerning the future of TNA coming at No Surrender this Sunday. Last year it was Kurt Angle coming to TNA. I've got a five spot saying the announcement is going to be for the debut of the two hour Impact in the fall. Love those teases of announcements that will change the face of the company. .. hey, TNA delivered last year, who knows?
There's Karen. . .10:30 into the show. The promo with Sting and the Angle's was more effective here than it would have been in a series of overdone locker room skits. . .
I like these Black Reign promo packages. He said he's "a sick human being." Imagine if he ever talked about what he did at SOUL SURVIVOR II in the back of Commissioner Von Johnson's SUV. . .
The nameless blonde interviews Chris Harris on his match at the PPV with Black Reign. . .he's going to show the world how sick Chris Harris can be. . .I don't buy it. . .maybe others will. . .
Another interview with the team of Abyss and Black Machismo (who you can see Saturday, September 29th at MWF FULL THROTTLE in Somerville, MA). Why oh why did they ever let Abyss talk?? Why ruin something that works?? They're are ads on this show for the movie Halloween. . .you want to know why Michael Myers stayed over?? The monster never spoke. . .he just raised hell.
Another James Storm skit looking for Rhino, this time at an AA meeting. I wonder if Reno Chastaine was there. This series of vignettes has done more to get Storm over than anything I've seen. . .
Samoa Joe vs Raven - Here comes Raven. . .talk about going nowhere fast. To those fans that haven't been around long, Raven was one of the great heels of 1990's, to say the least. The Samoan dancers enhance Joe's perception as a star, imo. Raven breaks out the kendo stick, AJ Styles (who, like Black Machismo, you can also see at FULL THROTTLE September 29th) runs in and taps Joe in the back of the head as we go to the break. . .Joe makes Raven tap to the rear naked choke. Not much of a match as Raven isn't moving around well. Christian's crew jumps him post match, so it told a story. Nice touch attacking the Samoan dancers at the end. Is AJ Styles even on the PPV??
Another great promo from Jim Mitchell about his son. Geez, do you think he's going to screw Abyss out of the title on Sunday?? It's like a Russo re-write from Bad Blood 1997 when Kane interfered in the classic Undertaker-Shawn Michaels Hell In The Cell. . .
Rhino joins the program via telephone and says he'll be in the middle of the ring at the PPV. . .
Kurt Angle & Sting vs Black Machismo & Abyss - There he is, Black Machismo. . .what an athlete. . .what a superstar! Did I mention where he's going to be on September 29th?? Or that his official t-shirt is available in the MWF Store? This probably had to be the biggest match he's had in TNA. This was a nice solid main event, that told a story, made sense and built to the PPV. In what's turning into a rarity these days, they played up recent history where Abyss wouldn't do too much damage to Sting. Right finish with Abyss pinning Angle. Post match, Jim Mitchell distracts Abyss, who chases him to the back. Killings and Jones hit the ring to spray paint Angle. Combine that and Angle carrying his wife to the back when she ran out mid-match, and I'm starting to think Angle turned for the 37th time in less than a year. . .
All in all, a good, enjoyable show. . .everything seemed to gel and build towards the PPV on Sunday. I'm really looking forward to watching what TNA does when they have two hours to present their product this fall. If they can back to presenting hot action in addition to the bigger names they've brought in, they could make a run at it. Right now, they only have four hours of TV to get over each PPV. We'll see soon. . .
